Vocational Training Workshops
In partnership with the Lebanese Welfare Association for the Handicapped (LWAH) and through PU Incubator, Phoenicia University supports inclusive, free vocational training opportunities that promote lifelong learning, skills development, and equitable access to education for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including persons with disabilities.
In 2024, 325 community members participated in these vocational training workshops, gaining practical skills that enhance independence, employability, and meaningful participation in society. Through this collaboration, participants are supported in developing professional competencies and accessing opportunities that promote economic inclusion and self-reliance.
Year-Round Vocational Workshops
Sewing Workshop
The Sewing Workshop provides continuous, free training in garment production, tailoring techniques, and textile skills. Participants develop practical competencies in design, cutting, stitching, and finishing, enabling them to pursue employment opportunities or income-generating activities within the textile sector. In 2024, 50 out of 76 participants with disabilities completed training through the workshop, and all participants were provided with employment opportunities, supporting their economic independence, dignity, and meaningful participation in the workforce.
Orthotics, Prosthetics, Medical Appliances, and Medical Shoes Workshop
This specialized year-round workshop provides free hands-on training in the production, maintenance, and adaptation of orthotic and prosthetic devices, medical appliances, and specialized footwear. Twenty participants acquired technical skills that contribute to supporting mobility services while developing professional competencies in a specialized healthcare-related field.
Mobility Aids Repair Workshop
The Mobility Aids Repair Workshop operates year-round and provides free technical training in the maintenance and repair of mobility devices. The workshop has helped 15 participants to develop practical repair skills that contribute to improving accessibility support services while enhancing their employability and technical expertise.
Periodic (Ad Hoc) Vocational Workshops
In 2024, a total of 214 participants took part in periodic (ad hoc) vocational workshops, benefiting from free, skills-based training designed to enhance practical abilities, foster creativity, and support pathways toward employment, self-reliance, and income-generating opportunities. The workshops covered the following areas:
- Jewellery Making Workshop
The Jewellery Making Workshop offers free training in creative design, craftsmanship, and jewellery production techniques, supporting participants in developing artistic skills and exploring potential income-generating opportunities. - Arts and Crafts Workshop
The Arts and Crafts Workshop provides free training in various creative techniques, allowing participants to develop practical skills, strengthen self-expression, and create handmade products that support personal and vocational development. - Pottery Workshop The Pottery Workshop introduces participants to free hands-on training in clay preparation, shaping, and ceramic production. It promotes creativity, craftsmanship, and skills applicable to small-scale production and entrepreneurship.
- Carpet Weaving Workshop
The Carpet Weaving Workshop provides free training in traditional weaving techniques, preserving cultural craftsmanship while equipping participants with specialized vocational skills. - Carpentry Workshop
The Carpentry Workshop offers free practical training in woodworking techniques, including basic construction, repair, and furniture production. Participants gain technical skills that support employment opportunities and independent vocational activities. - Candle Making Workshop
The Candle Making Workshop provides free training in product design, material handling, and small-scale production techniques, encouraging creativity, entrepreneurship, and the development of marketable handmade products.
