Phoenicia University Expands Water Testing Initiative to Local Communities

Phoenicia University is extending its academic and scientific resources beyond the campus through a water testing initiative that supports municipalities and local communities across Lebanon.

During August, the University conducted bacterial water testing for more than five villages, examining samples from different local water sources and sharing the results with the respective municipalities. The initiative aims to provide communities with reliable information on water quality and help local authorities better assess the safety of the sources they rely on.

The work is carried out by specialists from Phoenicia University’s Center for Research and Advancement, with the participation of student volunteers. Their involvement gives students the opportunity to contribute directly to community service while gaining hands-on experience alongside specialists in a real-world setting.

The initiative responds to an important public concern, particularly as bacterial contamination cannot always be identified through the appearance, smell, or taste of water alone. Scientific testing therefore remains essential in determining whether a water source is safe for use.

The initiative will continue in the coming months, reaching additional villages and municipalities across Lebanon while also raising awareness about the importance of regular water testing and its role in protecting communities and promoting safer water use.
