Keep Our Ocean Clean: Raising Awareness for Life Below Water
Phoenicia University organized an interactive environmental awareness lecture at LWAH School of Excellence (LSE) titled “Keep Our Ocean Clean” to educate students about ocean conservation, marine biodiversity, and the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems.
The session explored the vital role oceans play in maintaining environmental balance, supporting marine life, and sustaining human livelihoods. Students learned about the harmful effects of marine pollution, particularly plastic waste and improper waste disposal, on marine animals and their natural habitats. Through interactive discussions, they were encouraged to reflect on how everyday human activities contribute to ocean pollution and how individual actions can help reduce its impact.
The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water), particularly Target 14.1, which calls for the prevention and significant reduction of marine pollution. By promoting awareness of responsible consumption, proper waste disposal, and the reduction of plastic use, the activity encouraged students to take an active role in protecting marine biodiversity and preserving aquatic ecosystems for future generations.
