Journalism Ethics Talk with Samar Abou Khalil 

On November 6, 2023, the university welcomed journalist Samar Abou Khalil for a talk addressing the ethical principles that govern the journalism profession. The event was offered free of charge and open to both the university community and the general public, reflecting the institution's continued commitment to extending learning opportunities beyond its own student body.  

Drawing on her extensive professional experience, Ms. Abou Khalil outlined the core ethical standards journalists are expected to uphold, including accuracy, fairness, accountability, and the responsible handling of sensitive information. The session provided attendees with a grounded, professional perspective on the dilemmas journalists frequently encounter in practice, and on how sound ethical judgment underpins credible and trustworthy reporting. Through examples drawn from her own career, Ms. Abou Khalil illustrated the consequences of ethical lapses in the field, as well as the standards that distinguish responsible journalism from sensationalism.  

The talk reinforced the importance of integrity and accountability within the media profession, providing both students and members of the public with a clearer understanding of the ethical framework underpinning responsible journalism and communication.
