Environmental Testing Laboratory

The Environmental Testing Laboratory is located in Block B, Room 209. This laboratory helps in testing and analyzing environmental samples. The laboratory has a wide range of standard equipment for carrying out environmental analysis, including water analysis, wastewater treatment and water quality parameters. Other equipment such as sampling devices, quality analysis of water and wastewater devices and UV-visible spectrophotometers are also available, in addition to portable environmental equipment that aid in conducting experiments off campus.

Some of the major equipment available in this laboratory are:

  • Turbidity Meter:
    • Measures the turbidity or cloudiness in water samples (ASTM D1889)
  •  Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) Apparatus:
    • Tests the amount of oxygen consumed from the decomposition of organic matter (EPA 405.1)
  •  Jar Test Apparatus:
    • Simulates the coagulation/flocculation process and determines appropriate dosage (ASTM D2035)
  •  Colorimeter Apparatus:
    • Measures the free and total chlorine in drinking water and wastewater (EPA 10245 and EPA 8167)
