About the Program

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Speech Therapy program seamlessly blends clinical and professional training with academic study, equipping students to become skilled speech and language therapists serving Lebanon and the broader region. Our Speech Therapy curriculum is aligned with internationally recognized standards, ensuring students receive an in-depth and well-rounded education encompassing a wide spectrum of speech and language pathology aspects. This includes early intervention, articulation disorders, phonological disorders, voice disorders, fluency disorders, pragmatic language disorders, stuttering, aphasia and various other facets of the field.

Mission

The Speech Therapy Program at Phoenicia University is dedicated to preparing competent speech and language therapists who excel in assessing and devising therapeutic plans for individuals with various speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders. 

 

Program Educational Objectives

• PEO1. Equip students with a comprehensive understanding of typical and atypical development in speech therapy, encompassing speech, language, hearing, communication, and swallowing, while incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives from fields such as genetics, neurology, linguistics, and psychology.

• PEO2. Prepare students to demonstrate knowledge and skills in prevention, assessment, and intervention for individuals with diverse speech-related disorders, including the ability to critically evaluate evidence and apply evidence-based practices.

• PEO3. Offer experiential learning opportunities through internships in various speech and language pathology domains, providing students with hands-on experience to develop clinical skills, problem-solving abilities, and cultural competence.

• PEO4. Promote collaboration and effective communication within interdisciplinary teams, emphasizing the importance of interprofessional practice and teamwork in delivering comprehensive care to individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.

• PEO5. Instill a strong ethical foundation, ethical decision-making skills, and adherence to professional codes of conduct, ensuring students exhibit professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and integrity in their interactions and patient care.

• PEO6. Encourage critical thinking and research literacy: Develop critical thinking skills to assess and address complex communication and swallowing disorders, while fostering research literacy and the ability to critically evaluate research to inform evidence-based practice.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

• SLO1. Demonstrate core competencies related to speech therapies such as analytical skills, communication skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, empathy, and motivation. 

• SLO2. Assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent speech, language, communication, voice, cognitive, swallowing, and fluency disorders. 

• SLO3. Contribute to research, education, and healthcare settings, including outpatient departments, children's centers, day centers, and nursing homes. 

• SLO4. Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive services for patients. 

 

Speech Therapy Center

The Center for Diagnosis and Therapy for Speech-Language Pathology

The Center for Diagnosis and Therapy for Speech-Language Pathology at LWAH Medical Center provides diagnostic, rehabilitation, and guidance services to children with difficulties in the development of oral and written language. The center provides Phoenicia University senior speech therapy students an allocated space to assess, intervene and guide patients under the direct supervision of a speech-language pathologist (SLP).
