Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

PU's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are governed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC), which sets policy, and carried out day-to-day by the University Diversity Office (UDO). Together they ensure programs and support are open to all — students, faculty, and staff — regardless of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, or economic circumstance.

The two bodies

Composed of faculty representatives from each college, staff representatives, and student representatives, with the UDO as a non-voting member. Sets policy direction and takes decisions on university-wide DEI matters. Responsible for:

  • Setting university-wide policy on diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights
  • Reviewing and approving major DEI programs and strategic priorities
  • Overseeing resolution of escalated discrimination complaints through the formal complaints process

Manages day-to-day implementation of the Committee's decisions, reporting to both the Committee and the Chancellor. Tasked with:

  • Advising the Committee and leadership on DEI policies and practices
  • Overseeing DEI programs and support services for students, faculty, and staff
  • Developing and coordinating DEI and human rights training
  • Monitoring and resolving discrimination complaints, escalating where required
  • Directly handling gender-based or sexual harassment cases — confidential, impartial, timely, trauma-informed
  • Directly overseeing the Minorities Center

💬  How to get support

Any member of the PU community can reach out to the UDO directly. The UDO will listen and direct you to the right pathway within the Minorities Center, where trained staff support your specific needs. UDO staff are specially trained in women's empowerment, gender equality, and disability support to handle sensitive cases with care.

Initiatives

The UDO collaborates with student clubs and societies advancing DEI goals, and is currently developing a structured DEI and human rights training program to roll out to staff, faculty, and student leaders in the coming academic year.
