Petroleum Engineering

The profession of petroleum engineering relates to the discovery of reservoirs containing oil or natural gas, and the use of the profitable recovery method that is safe and environmentally friendly. The petroleum engineers typically use satellite and geological information to locate gas and oil deposits. Then they design and operate the gas and oil drilling equipment and facilities, and they control operations in platforms located offshore or in-land. The petroleum engineers are also involved in the design and operation of the chemical processes to refine the petroleum extracts into other products (such as gasoline, motor oil, lubricants, and plastics). The petroleum engineering profession is highly coveted in countries with untapped reserves of oil and gas.
